I never understood the appeal of rock stars

Until I saw the video clip

to Radiohead’s song Creep

and in the lead in to the chorus,

the lead guitarist – I checked with my boyfriend that this was right, that he wasn’t rhythm or base

if you’ve seen or heard the song

You will know that he does this thing

Explodes two notes that are not so much music

as grunts plucked from the point

deep within

where sex meets self-loathing

And each time he plucks

-         at least three, four times in that song

My loins stir in recognition

of that point

and I think, well if he can do that on stage

He can do anything he wants to me

And so rock faith was delivered unto me
